Dame Judi Dench’s Panty Fiasco

Dame Judi DenchLast night not only marked our first female-celebrity inspired panty fiasco, but it was also the first time we were only one point (ONE POINT!) away from placing in the top 4. This, of course, led to many “what if” and “if only” sentiments. However, much like our muse, we took it all in good stride and maintained a refined, dignified exterior. We even gave some dainty golf-clap props to our fellow competitors. (Though our insides reeled with ‘FOR THE LOVE!’ ..I mean, come on. One point! Jeebus. So close.)

Overall, it was a good night for our team though. Even one man down (for Eric was in Chicago), we put in a strong showing and we’re getting better at trusting our instincts and smarter about our bidding.  Plus, Aaron and Ben’s mad sports and geography skillz came through in a many a clutch. One day, my friends, one day, we shall have our victory and boxes of peeps in hand.

Speaking of peeps, let me just take a moment to digress and say that one of the reasons we (or mainly I) have grown attached to Our House trivia as opposed to all the other many trivia nights in the city is because DJ Al adds to his personal cool factor every week by having extremely random 4th place prizes. I mean, celebrity-moustache packs, peeps and choose-your-own-adventure books? It’s the kind of stuff that separates the great from the mediocre.

Back on topic—To quote Dame Dench in a role where she won her Oscar with just about 6-minutes of screen time (Boo-ya!), our night ended “as stories must when love’s denied—with tears and a journey.”  Though in our case, replace tears with “brubakers”.

Team results: 5th out of 18

Final question: “What was the last album the Beatles recorded together, though ‘Let It Be’ was released afterwards?”

(I would like to thank my Dad and kick-a$$ record collection for contributing to our team in getting this one correct. However, everyone and their mom also knew this one. C’est la vie. And yes, it was “Abbey Road”.)
